Public Works & Infrastructure Summit promises turning SA into a Construction Site

  • Broll’s Strategic Partnership: Broll Property Group sponsors the Public Works & Infrastructure Summit, aiming to drive economic growth and job creation through infrastructure development.
  • Summit Focus Areas: Key discussions will cover asset management, public-private collaboration, accountability, sustainable infrastructure, and financing solutions to enhance South Africa's built environment.
  • Summit Overview: The event will gather 500 delegates, including government, industry leaders, and financial institutions, to discuss strategies for optimising public assets and growth.

The Council for the Built Environment (CBE), an entity of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) responsible for regulating the built environment professions, is pleased to announce its official sponsorship agreement with Broll Property Group (Broll).

As one of Africa’s leading commercial property service companies and a majority black-owned business, Broll is proud to be a strategic partner for the Inaugural Public Works & Infrastructure Summit, taking place on 1 April 2025 under the theme: “Turning South Africa into a Construction Site: Growing the Economy and Creating Jobs.”

Malcolm Horne, Group CEO of Broll Property Group, stated:

“Broll is honoured to be a strategic partner and official sponsor of the Inaugural Public Works & Infrastructure Summit. More than a gathering, this summit is a call to action, aligning with the theme ‘Turning South Africa into a Construction Site.’

We are proud to contribute to solutions that drive economic growth, accelerate infrastructure development, and strengthen public-private collaboration.

Our team of expert executives attending and speaking at the summit are eager to engage in these discussions, recognising that this platform offers a unique opportunity for stakeholders from government, industry, and academia to exchange ideas and forge tangible strategies for progress.

At Broll, our commitment extends beyond infrastructure; we are focused on building a sustainable, inclusive, and thriving society.

For over 50 years, Broll has played a pivotal and significant role in shaping the built environment. Through our expertise in real estate services, we have contributed to economic growth by creating job opportunities, empowering communities, enhancing local talent, and fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors. As a proudly South African company with a continental footprint, we remain dedicated to ‘building for tomorrow’ - leaving a legacy for future generations to build upon.

We thank Minister Dean Macpherson for his strategic leadership, the Council for the Built Environment Chairperson, Ms Amelia Mtshali, and Dr. Msizi Myeza, the CEO of the CBE for driving this vital collaboration.”

This partnership aligns with Minister Macpherson’s 14 November 2024 address to the National Assembly, where he outlined DPWI’s plan to formalise public asset management through the establishment of technical task teams in cities across South Africa.

This initiative aims to attract private sector investment to revitalise public assets, generate revenue, create jobs, and enhance local communities. Against this backdrop, CBE has been tasked with convening the Inaugural Public Works and Infrastructure Summit.

Broll’s Strategic Role in the Summit

As a strategic sponsor, Broll will lead the Ministerial Pre-Summit Stakeholder Engagement and play a key role in Commission 2: Asset Management and Optimisation. This commission, facilitated by Bathobile Chime, Director - Client Solutions at Broll Property Group, will focus on unlocking the value of underutilised public assets.

Horne commented on Broll’s role in this discussion:

“This discussion is vital as it addresses how public assets can be optimised to drive economic growth and social development. We will focus on the role of government in unlocking the potential of underutilised assets, the private sector’s role in asset development, and the roadmap for future-proofing public infrastructure.

At Broll, we believe in solving problems, not just discussing them. That means aligning policies with market realities, ensuring investments are both strategic and sustainable, and driving real accountability in asset management. Our goal is to build a South Africa where public assets are not just owned but fully optimised, where development is not just planned but implemented, and where progress is not just promised but delivered.”
